Tanauan LGU is still on giving mode

Indeed, it’s too “Sweet” that Tanauan LGU is still on "giving mode."

This one too is also highly commendable which will make other local government units, or parents, may turn green with envy.

The season of giving is way past two months on the calendar but the LGU of Tanauan stays right up there, still on “giving mode.”

During her birthday on the first week of January, last month, amiable Tanauan lady mayor Mary Angeline “Sweet” Halili gave away at least 1,600 laptops to all public school teachers in the City of Colors.

This laptop distribution was made at the Tanauan South Central School under a program aptly dubbed “Handog Ko, Puso Ko Sa Kaarawan Ko.”

It was the intent of the lady local chief executive for Tanauan’s public school teachers to receive on her birthday the necessary gadget for their “online classes” under the distance mode of learning in the new normal.

“Sweet,” indeed.

But wait, there’s more!

Sensing that her laptop-giving spree might only serve well at one end, Mayor Sweet went into overdrive and provided too yes, for free, the other end -- junior high school students -- with free tablets.

12,160 of them. Oh, laban ka? Only cities of Metro Manila are doing this.

With all due respect, we’ve yet to hear a similar action from the city of Sto. Tomas. Ehem, excuse me po. Lipa City already did it with free laptops.

To make it more meaningful, the distribution of the free tablets to parents of JHS students in public schools of Tanauan City was made coinciding with the exact birthdate of Mayor Sweet’s father, the late mayor Thony Halili, last February 8, 2021.

It is envisioned that the program would finally meet the students' problem of inability to attend their online classes.

The distribution ceremony was attended by teachers from the City School Division under the leadership of Rogelio F. Opulencia, Schools Division Superintendent.

Members of the Barangay Council of Balele also extended help on crowd control and per instructions of Barangay Captain Jayson Capacia.

Because of its sheer volume, distribution of the “learning tablets′′ was temporarily halted but it will continue, officials said, until February 24, 2021 during which students from other public schools of other barangays of Tanauan City are scheduled to receive.

Just a little reminder to parents: Always keep a close watch over the use of these tablets by your kids.

Should you opt to give them a little time to play online games, put in place a time limit.

It’s a fact that online gaming nowadays is highly addictive, and so we hope that the free tablets should and must serve their primary purpose.

Let’s wait and see.
