Filipinos, here and abroad, are celebrating the victory of a fellowman named Sofronio Vasquez.
Sofronio won the most coveted prize of “The Voice USA” recently.
Fil-Am Ramon Capanzana of Texas has written a beautiful tribute to Vasquez: “Sofronio is indeed a good man. Aside from being a good man, he is also a good singer, Sofronio Vasquez is indeed the Pride of the Philippines. We need to unify because of Sofronio Vasquez if only the popular arts and culture of the country is promoted abroad.”
Ramon, a native of Lopez, Quezon, is counting on Sofronio to carry the Filipino spirit anywhere he goes.
“It is not only the talent of Sofronio that should be heralded. It's also his being a hardworking Filipino in the US who must also be admired and highlighted,” Capanzana added.
Meanwhile, a netizen named Kels de la Cruz is a number one fan of Sofronio. “Congrats to Sofronio Vasquez for being the champion of The Voice. You’ve shown us all the power of dreaming big and never losing hope. While we may face setbacks and lose some battles along the way, your journey reminds us that we must always remain unstoppable. Music industry professional and icon Tato Malay has a very touching tribute to Vasquez in an essay titled “With Sofronio Vasquez Winning The Voice USA, the Philippines Indeed is The Singing Capital of the World - A Celebration of Music and Culture.”
Here’s an excerpt from Tato’s account on the Fil-Am winner of “The Voice USA” when he belted out “Unstoppable” by Sia and “A Million Dreams” from “The Greatest Showman”: “The Philippines has long been celebrated as the ‘Singing Capital of the World,’ and the recent victory of Sofronio Vasquez on ‘The Voice USA’ highlights the country's deep-rooted love for music and the incredible talent it produces.
