Love the work that you have, until you have the work that you love! This line is a common mantra for eveey neophyte worker. Let us know why.
Within a corporate environment, I have personally observed various categories of employees. Recognizing and understanding these categories can be advantageous for establishing successful teams and promoting organizational growth. Allow me to elaborate on this matter.
First, the Scholar
These are the staffs who not only possess knowledge but are also aware of their expertise. They are often seasoned professionals, subject matter experts, or leaders with a deep understanding of their field.
Second, the Passionate
Passionate employees are individuals who work with great enthusiasm and devotion, committing themselves to their tasks regardless of their compensation or level of ability. They may not necessarily highly skilled nor mediocre.
Third, the Forgetful
This type of employee may have the necessary knowledge and skills, but might have momentarily forgotten about their capabilities. These could be those who have been in their roles for a long time, or have been out of touch with new developments in their field.
Fourth, the Money-motivated
These are employees driven by high salaries as their motivational factor. Thus, making them so vulnerable to leaving for competitors offering them a better pay. This poses a significant risk to the company.
Fifth, the Student
These are the eager learners who are aware of their lack of knowledge and are actively seeking to improve themselves. In a corporate setting, these individuals can be junior employees, new hires, or anyone open to growth and development. Investing in their learning and development through training programs, mentorship, and providing opportunities for skill-building can help them evolve into valuable assets for the organization.
Sixth, the Uninterested
In a corporate environment, there may also be employees who are not interested in expanding their knowledge or skills, and may even be unaware of their limitations. These staffs can be a challenge to engage and motivate. It's important to assess whether their lack of interest stems from a lack of awareness, disengagement, or personal preferences.
Seventh, the No-choice
Lastly, the no-choice employees, they can be the scholar type, the forgetful, the student type, yet whose nature of employment is based on the lack of alternative job opportunities outside. That is why they just retain for awhile with their mantra:
Love the work that you have, until you have the work that you love!
