We are living in a troubled world. While Covid-19 pandemic is still very much obtaining, and the nations are still grappling on its recovery from its loss, a war in Europe that could potentially plunge the world to another catastrophic chaos has just begun.
As of this writing, there’s no sign of de-escalation and slowing of assault by the Russian forces against Ukraine.
With the harsh sanctions by the West now being imposed on Russia for its criminal act of aggressions against a peaceful nation of Ukraine, the war clock seemed to be ticking close to the hour of doom – a period so perilous the world has not yet known.
Without doubt, these rumours of troubles certainly leave us anxious and deeply worried.
When we should be at peace, trusting, praying, giving, worshiping and keeping, holding on our faith in God; when we should be doing the things of God, and keeping our homes and families intact; when we should be at peace and having joy in our hearts, we end up overwhelmed by the disturbing noise of chaos.
Worried and anxious, we seemed confused and despondent, almost resigned to giving up our peace.
But peace is always present, and never, for once lost. When everything around seems crumbling, when conflicts begin to set in, when enemies start attacking, and when life becomes harsh and hard because of ensuing circumstances beyond your control, peace is always there – present and available. When decisions are made and its consequences are hurting, when resources are low and demands are high, when relationships are at its lowest and infightings are escalating, when we get off track of God’s plan and get lost, peace for once had never been lost. It is always there, a very present moment in times of trouble.
But this peace I’m talking about is different from the peace this world gives. This peace is found in no one else but Jesus. Not in religion. Not in morals and the best of culture this highly sophisticated and civilized world could possibly give. No. Not in institutions – established government systems, neither in the best of politics and great philosophies. Not in money nor in people – small and great. No. Neither tranquil and goodwill is found in harsh corrupt environs. This peace over troubled waters is found in no one else but Jesus!
Jesus had this to say for all of us:
“In me you will have peace. In the world you shall have troubles. But be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
