Whenever I pass by Casa del Niño Montessori School in San Pedro City, it always reminds me of Julia Clarete's educational roots where she said in many of her interviews that she graduated from high school.
Even if I am not close to Julia—maybe she doesn’t even know me from Adam—but I admire her simplicity and candidness.
Once I saw from afar at the ABS-CBN canteen and she was unassuming but always on alert.
When I chanced upon her on Reels singing “Laguna” with its composer and original singer Sampaguita, it brought back a lot of memories about Clarete and Sampaguita, Maria Teresa Alfonso in real life.
It didn’t only bring back memories, it reminded us that Sampaguita is from Pangil, Laguna and she misses the idyllic town.
Clarete also never misses to drop by her family in San Pedro City.
Just as March dawned in, the singer-actress was spotted in a restaurant in Southwoods Mall with a friend.
Julia is now married to Gareth McGeown, an international brand manager of Coca-Cola.
She and Gareth together with her son Sebastian—with past boyfriend Stephen Uy—went back to the Philippines because he was assigned again at Coca-Cola Philippines.
At the time, Clarete went back to acting, this time as a regular cast member of “Barangay Mirandas” over net25.
Julia waits and sees where her hubby would be assigned next; as an expat couple, she has to adjust to any environment.
Meanwhile, Sampaguita, the pride of Pangil, Laguna is busy with music education among the young people.
Maria Teresa or Tessy was married to music producer Nilo Santos with whom she has a son, Kowboy Santos who is also a singer.
Sampaguita is now spending her life with Miguel Romero with whom she has a daughter, Jacinta Romero.
Long live! The Lagunenses in Sampaguita and Julia.
