The Manila International Airport Authority entered into agreement with Grab Philippines aimed at improving transport service at NAIA.
The management of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) has partnered with Grab Philippines to enhance transport service at the country's international main gateway.
The partnership dubbed as "Airport to Anywhere (ATA)" pilot program aims to initially deploy a dedicated fleet of 200 Grab accredited vehicles to service the increased demand for transport vehicles in Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
The ATA, according to MIAA, can be booked through the Grab mobile app with fixed fares based on drop off location and no surge charges.
MIAA General Manager Cesar Chiong has discussed with Grab Philippines in September the efficiency and improvement of transport service in the primary airport.
Chiong expressed elation that Grab Philippines has agreed with the partnership, "We explored this partnership as part of our preparations for the Christmas season. We thank Grab Philippines and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) for joining hands with us in the interest of our air riding public," Chiong said.
Grab is the first Transportation Network Companies (TNC) to be officially accredited by MIAA in 2016.
The MIAA said the agreement will commit Grab Philippines to deploy units that will pick-up passengers at the airport and then drop off passengers to their destinations and return to NAIA to pick up more passengers. The authority said the partnership was different from the previous agreement with the TNC. This time, Grab accredited vehicles would stay to pick up passengers at NAIA from first up to the last flights.
There are also other public utilities involved in the transportation system in NAIA consisted of accredited yellow cabs and coupon taxis.
The MIAA bared that NAIA's monthly passenger volume last month has reached 3.1 million or a 229 percent increase compared with the figures for the same period last year.
MIAA explained that they tapped Grab Philippines to add on to its airport vehicle fleet as they are expecting the upward trend in passenger traffic to be more pronounced starting December 16 when vacationing Filipinos arrive from abroad.
"The MIAA-Grab undertaking is an endeavor that is expected to address the high demand for airport vehicles this Christmas and at the same time give passengers a wider selection of transport options to choose from," the MIAA said.
