Leyte’s erstwhile golden boy by virtue of his surname, Rep. Martin Romualdez, is on a warpath.

While we thought VP Sara was the one who promised a bloodbath in case her impeachment goes to the Senate for trial, this Tolosa Boy who almost never sets foot in Tolosa and has forgotten his hometown in funds and projects distribution, is the one threatening a bloodbath.

The billions of pesos plundered from the national treasury through the flood control scandal are now coming home to roost… and the master thieves are flying the coop.

When his right-hand man and perennial bagman Zaldy Co realized that his life is in danger and that he would be at the bottom of the great “laglagan,” he fled and hid his cowardly ass in Europe. He was reportedly arrested in the Czech Republic and the justice secretary flew there to negotiate for his repatriation.

It appears that Zaldy Co had another passport issued by Portugal, and since his Philippine passport was cancelled, legal experts say he may be deported by Czech to Portugal and not the PHL.

Next in line is Zaldy’s boss, the notorious Tolosa Boy whose claim to being an elected representative was the preponderance of votes from Tacloban City, even as the rest of the towns of the First District were lukewarm to him.

Martin Romualdez is now a rich businessman not because of his business acumen but because of the generational wealth he inherited from his father Kokoy, whose riches may be traced to his being a brother of the First Lady, Imelda Romualdez Marcos. If plain cronies can make billions during the Martial Law administration of Ferdinand Marcos, well, what windows of business opportunities might you expect to be open for the brother-in-law?

It is the highest test of the Filipinos’ credulity — this nagging question of whether Martin Romualdez participated in the rapacious raid of the nation’s coffers, if he was the “mastermind” or if he played a major role in the heist.

Everyone has heard the former Speaker’s blanket denial, that he was not at the bicameral decision-making, that he was absent from the highly criminal gang called the “small committee” and he hopes people would believe him. He even made a full video to air his denials, a video that reminds us of Zaldy Co again, who had made this dubious performance some weeks back.

Martin threatens that if he is pushed to the wall, if he goes down, he will take all the bigger “magnanakaws” with him to the fiery gates of Hell. And who are the people bigger than Martin, then and now?

We would like to think that the threat was hurled to his cousin President Bongbong Marcos, then Senate president Chiz Escudero, a few other congressmen, congresswomen and senators, several Cabinet members especially Mina Pangandaman and Manuel Bonoan, and even Cathy Cabral wherever she may be now.

Right on, Martin. Take them to where they properly belong. But don’t forget to lead the way.

(Disclosure: As an atheist, I do not believe in hell. Or in heaven for that matter.)
