Traditionally, the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee (SBRC) is entrusted to senior senators, given its sensitive role in investigating corruption and ensuring government accountability. Yet, despite being a first-term senator, Rodante Marcoleta stands out as the ideal choice to chair this critical committee. Here’s why:

  • Extensive Legislative Experience
Before joining the Senate, Marcoleta served for many years in the House of Representatives, where he chaired key committees. This background equips him with a deep understanding of legislative processes and oversight functions.
  • Sharp Legal and Business Acumen
As a seasoned trial lawyer with a master’s degree in business, he brings both analytical rigor and practical judgment. His ability to dissect complex cases and scrutinize government transactions is exactly what the SBRC needs.
  • Principled and Unyielding
Marcoleta has proven himself impervious to pressure. He once relinquished committee chairmanships in the House rather than compromise his principles, demonstrating integrity that transcends political convenience.
  • Institutional Backing
His membership in the powerful Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) bloc provides him with a unique shield against political intimidation. Few would dare to undermine him as he pursues investigations against corrupt officials “without fear or favor.”
  • Secure Tenure Until 2031
With a long Senate term ahead, Marcoleta is insulated from short-term electoral pressures. Unlike former SBRC chair Dick Gordon who lost reelection after probing the Pharmally scandal. Marcoleta cannot be easily blackmailed by political threats or campaign considerations.

Senator Rodante Marcoleta embodies the independence, courage, and resolve needed to lead the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee at a time when public trust in government is fragile.

Let us support and pray for him as he takes on this responsibility in the service of truth and accountability.
