Korean Airlines flight KE631 overshot Runway 22 of Mactan-Cebu International Airport after landing which caused Cebu-bound flights cancelled and diverted
Aviation authorities on Monday announced that several flights bound for Cebu were cancelled following the closure of Mactan-Cebu airport runway due to a disabled aircraft of a foreign airline.
Reports said that Korean Airlines flight KE631 from Incheon, South Korea, with 162 passengers and 11 crew on board, was obstructing the runway after a landing incident which occurred late Sunday evening.
The report said that the aircraft, an Airbus A330-300, overshot the runway after touchdown at past 11 p.m. Sunday and ended at the muddy portion of end of Runway 22.
All passengers are safe and being attended by Cebu-Mactan airport ground personnel, aviation authorities said.
Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Aircraft Accident Investigation Inquiry Board has dispatched its probers to Cebu "to investigate the nature of the incident."
The runway closure has caused flights unable to take off and land until clearing operations are completed.
Philippine Airlines (PAL) said flights PR1869/PR1868 (Cebu-Manila-Cebu) has been cancelled since Sunday.
