A fun game turned sour match.

But only in a few seconds.

Still, the tourney was spoiled a little, though.

The joy and excitement went on, anyway.

It happened in the town of Lopez in the province of Quezon last week.

It was during the allegedly fake 169th founding anniversary of the town last April 30 when Team Artista, a celebrity five, challenged Team Artistahin (Potential Artists), a group of local hoopsters in an exhibition game held at the Lopez Town Plaza.

Joko Diaz, a member of the celeb team and an import named Black Superman of the host town basket team had a run-in in the hardcourt.

Black Superman was allegedly blocking Joko's way in what looked like an intimidating stunt so that the actor got touchy.

“K’wan lang naman po ‘yon, natural lang sa laro ‘yon (That’s only, well, that’s natural in basketball),” observed Jimar Marjalino, a teammate of Black Superman.

“Siyempre, mas matangkad ‘yong import at parang napapunta si Joko sa ilalim (Of course, the import was taller and Joko got under him),” shared Marjalino who wasn’t familiar with the real identity of the import.

Despite an apparent clash, the opponents had to be whisked away from the floor.

There was a short-lived tension, though, said Jimar.

However, the ball game went on to the anticipation of the crowd after Diaz and Black Superman kissed and made up.

The actors, which included JC de Vera, Matt Evans, Luis Alandy, Paolo Gumabao, among others, won the tournament.

“Magagaling po talaga ‘yong mga artista (The artists were really good,” commented Marjalino.

Meanwhile, the 169th foundation day of Lopez is still being disputed by historian and writer Gem Suguitan because according to her, the correct founding of Lopez was June 30, 1857.

It just so happened, said Suguitan, that in the early 1910s, there was a celebration in the town marking the feast of the municipal government on the 30th of every month of April.

But the National Archives of the National Library of the Philippines bears the June 30, 1857 official declaration as the founding day separating Talolong, former name of the sitio, from Gumaca town, as approved and signed in Manila by then Governor General Fernando Norzagaray of Tayabas, the former name of Quezon Province.

May I call on the forthcoming Sangguniang Bayan to please look into this case.

Propagating incorrect and distorted history is leading citizens into a wrong destination.
