Everyone is talking about “Unmarry,” directed by Jeffrey Jeturian and produced by Quantum Films and Cine Productions for the 2025 Metro Manila Film Festival.

Everybody is taking their hats off to the film from writer, film history and teacher Wanggo Gallaga (the son of the late great filmmaker Peque Gallaga) to netizen magandabamovie.

At the rate things are going, “Unmarry,” which stars Angelica Panganiban and Zanjoe Marudo might be one of the dark horses if not the top grosser in the box-office records of the festival.

Anyway, it’s only short of one week screening of all eight entries that started on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025 and anything can happen between today and the last day of showing of the 51st film fiesta on the first week of January 2026.

Even if it is pitted against stalwarts like Vice Ganda in Jun Robles Lana’s “Call Me Mother” and Piolo Pascual in Raymond Red’s “Manila’s Finest,” Jeturian’s masterpiece isn’t a minor thing to ignore.

The 2025 MMFF has also lined-up “Shake, Rattle & Roll: Evil Origins,” but “Unmarry” has its own merits and edge because it is the comeback movie of Angelica and Zanjoe is her perennial love interest in some past TV shows.

“Unmarry” takes the audience to the tedious process of getting an annulment that usually drains, not only the pockets but emotions and psychological make-up of a person.

But scriptwriter Chris Martinez managed to come up with a very well-defined screenplay and his partnership with Jeffrey was an awaited moment.

“Unmarry” is also Jeturian’s comeback to film directing after the satiric “Ekstra” shown at the Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival in 2013.

Jeffrey has refreshed his directing acumen and he is ready for other challenges in the near future.

This early, JJ is keeping his fingers crossed his festival entry will rake in money at the tills.

His wish is to sustain the lifeline of the local film industry.
