Government should be the servant, and not the master of the people!

A MERE month and a week after the start of curfew on Saturday, March 14, 2020, midnight, and Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, my enthusiasm started to wane due to the discrimination against seniors.

My interest and belief in what the government was saying was melting due in part to the replacement of IATF Spokesman Cabinet Secretary Nograles by ‘Spoks’ Harry Roque.

My desire to help the government was disappearing due to partisanship and red tape.

The milestones that caused these happened in April, May and June, 2020.

When a Government and its Political Leaders serve the citizens, residents and voters, the people cooperate and help and may even become united.

When the Politicians and Bureaucrats try to lord it over everybody else, decide for their own interests and whims, and take and steal and waste the people’s dignity, health and wealth, the people respond negatively.

However, there have been many tyrants in History who for a limited period of time, knew how to, and succeeded in fooling the majority of the people.

Some examples are the Roman Emperor Caligula, French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, Italian Fascist Benito ‘Il Duce’ Mussolini, German National Socialist/Nazi Chancellor Adolf Hitler, American Republican President Donald Trump and (FUTURE TENSE) Davao City Mayor and Philippine President Rodolfo ‘Rudy’ Duterte y Roa.

All of them fell afoul of President Abraham Lincoln’s famous rule, “You can Fool all the People some of the time and some of the People all of the time, but you cannot Fool all the People all the time!”

They even fooled themselves for a while, that they were right, that they were heroes and that they were leaders.

They were deposed, disgraced, exiled, tried and convicted, imprisoned, killed (or committed suicide) and became the bad examples and ‘kontrabidas’.

They ended up in the dustbin of History and most probably in Hell.

We wonder, what will the majority of the people be saying about PDU30 on July 1, 2022? What will be the value of a PDU30 endorsement in the 2022 and 2025 National and Midterm Elections?

However, from 2015 until the present, then Mayor and now President Rodolfo Duterte y Roa, has been consistently popular.

In the latest Pulse Asia Public Opinion Survey, his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sarah Duterte, led the field of presidentiables.

She and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno led the field of Vice Presidentiables. However, the 2022 national elections are still a year and a week away.

Many things can still happen. Many twists and turns can still occur.

A review of what happened in the first and second quarters of 2021 and what is happening in the first and second quarters of 2022, show us the weak spots of the PDU30 Administration and the Achilles heel of the would be PDU30 anointed candidates in the May 2022 National Elections.

ECQ was imposed on Tuesday, March 17 up to mid - May, 2020 in the NCR. Then came modified ECQ and GCQ.

However, on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, upon the request of the Medical Sector, our Quarantine state was increased. ECQ wreaked havoc on our economy.

However, the ‘atras abante!’ Quarantines confused all of us.

May 1 (last Saturday) was International Labor Day (except in the USA and a few other countries.).

Last year, it was a very sad day for Philippine Labor in terms of both foreign and local jobs lost. In both 2021 and 2022, it will be a sad day again.

Tuesday, May 5, 2020, was the day that ‘vengador’ PDU30 through Solicitor General Calida and the NTC unjustly closed down ABS CBN. Surveys showed that ABS CBN was as popular as PDU30.

Corregidor fell to the Japanese on May 6, 1942. In recent years the Fall of Bataan on April 9, 1942, and Corregidor are commemorated together. PDU30 snobs the overwhelming majority of such official events like Independence Day, Rizal’s Birthday, Phil American Friendship Day, the Cry of Balintawak or Pugad Lawin, National Heroes Day and Rizal Day.

May 8, 2021, is PNP Director General Debold ‘Mananita’ Sinas’s fifty sixth birthday.

He will reach his retirement age. He has not been properly investigated nor punished for his violation of medical and quarantine protocols on his birthday last year.

June 5, 2021, is the first anniversary of San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora’s violation of medical and quarantine protocols in Baguio City. His subordinates were investigated and punished but the VIP escaped scot free.

Multi-billion corruption and scandal at the PhilHealth played on and on for many months last year.

Last month the issue of unpaid bills to Private Hospitals and the PNRC resurfaced. Who have been punished so far? (To be continued)
