Who is this once-aspiring politician in a progressive city here in Laguna province who now seems to have lost his political machinery?

That was one conclusion borne out by the latest survey fielded by OpinYon Laguna as part of its efforts to gauge public opinion in the upcoming 2025 midterm elections.

We had already seen two potential wannabe candidates – both spouses of major political leaders in this city – being pushed to run for a hotly-contested position in the 2025 midterm elections.

But there was one person whom we wanted to gauge public opinion: the same guy who ran in that same position but lost heavily to the incumbent holder in the 2022 presidential race.

So, just to see if people still remember him, we added his name to the survey.

Today, almost a week into the survey, the results are astounding: out of the 6,100 reactions to the survey, this guy got only 21 reactions!

Notwithstanding the fact that we had suspected online trolls and manufactured reactions of “hijacking,” so to speak, our online polls, the fact is that this guy’s machinery seemed to have dried up in the years after his defeat in the 2022 elections.

Last we’ve heard, he’s now into private business and has launched a new mobility app, while his “Wi-Fi zones” that have sprouted all over the city in the run-up to the 2022 polls have all fallen into disuse. (There, that’s another clue for you readers.)

It’s also possible that his efforts to go back to the political scene of his “native” city (as this column space had reported last year) had probably ended up with nothing, as that city’s own political leaders and bosses have reportedly formulated their own game plans for 2025.

Does this spell the end of this guy’s political ambitions? Abangan ang susunod na kabanata!

In the news: Vice President Sara Duterte has resigned from her major positions in the Marcos, Jr. cabinet, although she will remain as Vice President. Political analysts see the move not only as the official “break-up” of the tandem’s “UniTeam” but also as an omen to the Duterte family’s heightened ambitions to regain their position of power in the country.

In the local front: supporters of former Vice President Leni Robredo gather in San Pedro City, Laguna to show their continued support for her and other members of the opposition (what I consider the “genuine opposition,” not the “opportunistic opposition” being fielded by a “delusional” Atty. Harry Roque) years after her defeat in 2022.

Where’s the true “unity” now, huh?
