IN the news, schools groan at the new tax rules, get the support of two senators.

School owners are saying the government has just buried them to bankruptcy. The government has imposed higher taxes on income, from the current 10 percent, now 25% of their income will go to the government.

This edict came at a time when almost all schools have closed shop due to the pandemic.

What the government just did was to make sure these closed schools don’t open again.

Two things we cannot avoid in life, death and taxes. And this reminds me of a story of one businessman who was about to die and giving his final instructions to the wife.

He ordered his remains be cremated. Wife asked, how she would handle the ashes.

“Place the ashes in an envelope, send the envelope to the BIR with a note: ‘Now you have everything”, the businessman said.

There is no escaping in paying taxes. And a blonde’s experience is a lesson.

Tax inspector: Pay your taxes with a smile.

Blonde: I have tried several times, but you always insisted on cash.

The election fever is starting to pick up with the country’s mainstream media giving front page treatment to probable presidential bets.

So Daughterte is finally running. Sen. Manny Pacqiuao stumbles even before getting into the starting line.

But the competitive spirit in the international sportsman has not been lost, he is expected to be in the starting line when the starting gun is fired.

So many combinations are now in play. The presidential race will be a good match between Sarah Daughterte, Sen. Manny, and Sen. Ping Lacson.

But reports say, Vice President Leni was saying she is still open to run for president.

The vice presidential derby is also interesting to watch.

In the race are Senate President Tito Sotto, DPWH Sec. Mark Villar, former Sen. Bongbong Marcos, Sen. Sonny Angara, and Mayor Isko Moreno

Jazzing up for the senatorial race are: Presidential Chief Legal Counsel Sal Panelo, Transportation Sec. Art Tugade, Rep. Loren Legarda, Presidential Spox Harry Roque, and Gibo Teodoro.

Names in the entertainment and national media are also preparing like Raffy Tulfo who is making good showing in surveys.

Let’s us not be surprised if we continue to be voting into national offices popular names in entertainment, sports and media. Name recall is an important ingredient in getting votes.

Before entertainment personalities invaded congress, this noble house was packed by lawyers until the lawyers realized they were making better money in private practice.

My kapitbahay tells me of a story. He was in a court hearing. Judge says to the prisoner: “Is there anything you can offer the court before judgment is rendered on you?”

Prisoner: “Nothing Judge. My lawyer has already taken my last P1,000.00.”
