For the first time in their illustrious acting careers, actresses Charo Santos-Concio and Boots Anson Roa-Rodrigo are playing lesbians in an upcoming film, “Until She Remembers.”
Catherine (Anson Roa-Rodrigo) is an English-Literature teacher of Concha (Santos-Concio) who in their entire student-mentor stint both fell in love with each other, shared the same dream as seen through the poetry of Pablo Neruda, but they were torn apart by Concha's parents.
After a long absence, Catherine and Concha saw each other again through the inquisitiveness of Angel (Barbie Forteza), Concha's granddaughter.
Angel did all the works to discover the truth about the secrets of her grandmother's past.
The young girl discovered the real relationship of her grandma to Catherine.
At first, she was perplexed but later, she was able to come to terms with her forebears' personal stories.
Here is a story that has long been wanted to do by the 2009 Palme d'Or Best Director winner Brillante Ma. Mendoza - and he was able to pull it off smoothly.
"Until She Remembers" is written and directed by Brillante himself.
"Matagal ko nang nakonseptuwalays ang kiwentong ito. At matagal ko na ring gustong maging artista siba Charo at Boots. Sa totoo lang, kahit noong TV executive oa si Charo sa ABS-CBN, may inialok na ako sa kanya na project pero hindi natuloy dahil abala nga siya kanyang trabaho. Pero ngayon, (I have long conceptualized this project. And It been ages that I want to work with Charo and Boots. As matter of fact, even when Charo was still a TV executive in ABS-CBN, I had a project meant for her but it didn't push through because she was hooked into her work. But now), she has all the time in the world to do films," explained Mendoza.
Gay women roles were rare chances for Santos-Concio and Anson Roa-Rodrigo.
Mendoza didn't wait for long as Charo and Boots easily said yes to the project.
"Talaga palang pangarap na nilang makaganap na tomboy sa pelikula. 'Yon pala ang hidden secrets nila (It was really their dream to portray lesbians in films. That was their aspirations)," echoed Brillante of Charo and Boots' admission during their conversations on the set of the movie.
"Until She Remembers" is scheduled for theatrical release in February or March and eventually, live streaming this year.
Netflix must be waiting for its copy.
