PERHAPS it is the nature of every man to be entertained, to find solace and relaxation in the face of all the problems of existence in this world.

That is why we have showbiz. And show business, through the years, have metamorphosed into various branches: the movies, music, live shows, concerts, plays, new media and now, social media. Everyone is sought to be entertained, whether by a song, a movie, or a blood-curdling Marites content.

Someone in Hollywood said that the reason why there is showbiz is because people need to have something to talk about.

I believe this is true.

And what are being talked about by Filipinos these days? Let me round out the list:

Bea Alonzo and Xian Lim both said they were not the first to end their respective relationships. No, they were not a couple. Bea was talking about her break with Dominic Roque while Xian was talking about his breakup with Kim Chiu.

Seems like these events took place very long time ago, but the irrepressible Nelson Canlas keeps on digging and digging for something to write or present.

This is also water down the river. Not water down the bridge because there was no bridge in the first place.

Jin of BTS should take on the role of a poster boy for nationalism--whether in Korea or in the Philippines--for the responsible actions he has shown recently. And for that, he deserves a hug.

You see, South Korea is technically still at war with North Korea and all able-bodied men in Korea are mandated to serve in the Army.

I mean the South Korean Army. Not the BTS ARMY, which is the name by which thousands of fans of the BTS like to call themselves.

Members of the popular band BTS are no exception to this conscription rule. Although the government of South Korea usually shows its gratitude for the thousands of dollars that bands like the BTS are giving to the country, aside from the invaluable goodwill and reputation, by allowing them to delay their military service until they reach the maximum age of 30.

Thus Jin, the eldest of the BTS, joined the Army at 30 years ago. He spent 18 months at the border next to the Demilitarized Zone, the most dangerous place in the world, it was said to be.

I have been in that area myself, several years ago. This is where the Netflix hit "Crash Landing on You" was shot. It was winter time and very cold then, and the golf course--touted to be the most dangerous golf course in the world because it is in the South Korean side of the DMZ and if you slice your ball it will fly to the North, and probably hit a North Korean soldier, and so you might start a war that could exacerbate into a nuclear war!

Well, Jin learned how to use a live grenade, how to fire his rifle, etc. and even asked to be assigned to the posts nearest the border with the North. Such courage for a celebrity! How I wish our male celebrities in local showbiz are just Jin.

We've come to the end of our Marites BTS chika today. More on Pareng Jin next time.

Regards and shout out to Mareng Lolit Solis and her friend Salve Asis. Good wishes too, to my good friends Cristy Fermin, Ed de Leon, Aster Amoyo, Jun Nardo, Lhar Santiago, Alice Vergara, Art Tapalla, Boy Villasanta, Ronald Constantino, Pilar Mateo, Eugene Asis, Danny Vibas, etc. I left showbiz writing some 30 years ago. Happy to see that our showbiz press generation is still around, and I am happy to be back on the beat.
