How do you measure the worth of a newscaster or broadcaster on television?

Is it through popularity?

Or the persuasiveness of her or his delivery?

As a news anchor, one has to wear objectivity in imparting the news or as a public affairs show host, one has to be emphatic of the subject without losing one's judgement or an open-ended assessment of not an absolute take of both the facilitator and the audience.

Is the worthiness of a TV journalist gauged by her of his personal appeal?'

People's Television (PTV) Channel 4 news anchor Angelique Lazo, a resident of Santa Rosa City, has done and experienced all these years.

Angelique, a graduate of Communication Arts from the Ateneo de Manila University, has come full circle from broadcasting news features, human interest stories, political events, entertainment news and other beats.

"I've come full circle in my forty years in the broadcast industry," disclosed Angelique in one of our private conversations.

Lazo isn't a Lifetime Achievement Awardee of the 37th Star Awards for TV organized by the Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) for nothing.

Jik (Angelique's nickname), has proven she is a versatile broadcast journalist because of her well-rounded personality who could tackle all kinds of issues on the ground.

And she has pivoted in all major networks in the land.

After graduating from a mass media course, Jik was hired by Nation Broadcasting Company, also known in the 80s as NBN Channel 4, the government broadcast station.

At Channel 4, Angelique was moving around with Korina Sanchez, Mel Tiangco, Arlene Sensuat, the future Arlene de Castro, partner of Noli de Castro, and other mass comm practitioners
When ABS-CBN was recaptured by the Lopezes from the dictatorship after the EDSA Revolution, Angelique, Korina, Mel, Arlene and other TV personalities applied in ABS-CBN and got accepted.
At the Star Network, Angelique made a name for herself as an entertainment newscaster with a difference.

She was a pretty looker in the world of entertainment news.

After ABS-CBN, Jik went to Radio Philippines Network (RPN) Channel 9 as one of the anchors of the current affairs program "Action 9" and later as a newscaster.

Jik had also a stint with GMA Network.

She also had a show with Intercontinental Broadcasting Corporation (IBC) Channel 13 in Broadcast City.

There was also her Channel 5 show "Buklod," a public affairs show.
And now, she's back at People's TV Channel 4 where she hosts several shows.

Angelique Lazo has indeed come full circle.
