2025 MMFF Best Actress is from Calamba City

Calamba City, Laguna--Yes, the 51st Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Best Actress is from this city.

Anne Krystel Daphne Go, also known as Krystel Go, an official resident of Barangay Banlic, won the coveted award at the recent MMFF awards night held at the ballroom of Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City.


Krystel romped away with the plum for her convincing portrayal as a girlfriend who has Down Syndrome of a fellow special person in the heartwarming film "I'mPerfect," a Nathan Films' production.


Krystel bested other nominees in the category, namely Angelica Panganiban for Quantum Films and Cineko Productions' "Unmarry," Nadine Lustre for Star Cinema, IdeaFirst Company and Viva Films' "Call Me Mother" and Dianca de Vera for ABS-CBN Studios, GMA Pictures and Regal Entertainment's "Love You So Bad."


According to accounts, Krystel was born and raised in this city in 1996.


She is the daughter of couple Kim and Amy Go.


Krystel was born with Down syndrome, a genetic condition where an individual has an extra full or potential copies of Chromosome 2m1.


Accordingly, it has been her dream to be a movie star like what she has been watching on films and television.

In her growing up years, Krystel was part and interacted in the activities of people with the same condition in the Down Syndrome Association of the Philippines, Inc. (DSAPI) where she was exposed to its various programs.


She was also part of Gentle Angels Down Syndrome Calamba, an organization that supports in developing and harnessing self-confidence of people with Down syndrome.


When Krystel learned that there was an audition for the roles in "I'mPerfect," she didn't hesitate to join and was chosen to play Jessica, a female Down syndrome who is in love with male Down syndrome.


In her acceptance speech, Krystel thanked her director, Sigrid Andrea P. Bernardo who she said believed in her talent.


"Sa pamamagitan po ng pelikulang ito, nabigyan kami ng boses (Because of this film, we were given voice about our lives and conditions)," she said.


She dedicated her victory to her mom and dad.


Calambanenos and Calambanenas are proud of the achievement of Krystel.


Calambanenos and Calambanenas are encouraging their kababayans to watch and support Krystel in her film project.


Although there are criticisms against Go's victory but she and her supporters are confident about her fate.
