For starters, allow me to wish for our OpinYon readers a healthy and prosperous New Year!
2021 is the year of the Metal Ox, identified with being honest, dependable, diligent, strong and determined. Women Oxes are known to be extremely loyal mates. Male Oxes, meanwhile, are known to be idealists.
Going on the second year of the pandemic, those born under this star sign are expected to lead and inspire others to overcome their fears and better their hopes for the future.
Let the strength and determination of the Ox guide us in our battle against this killer virus.

2020 was a shocking of changer of a year.
For instance, we were told to stay away from negative people, many of us wrote in a resolution in 2019.
But come 2020, the order was to stay away from positive people.
Roles changed in most families.
When I used to order my kids to stay home, now its me sneaking out of the house and my kids are yelling at me to stay inside.
We are always reminded to wash our hands more often than the usual. I keep wondering are we to forget to take shower?
I never thought that insult of a saying “ I would not touch him with a 6-foot pole” would become a world policy. But it is now. You can even get arrested for disregarding this order.
It feels eerie going to a bank and face a teller wearing a mask and asking for your money.
Yes, so many changes in our way of life.
2021, I say, is a test of our determination to adapt to a new lifestyle.

2021 will really be a challenge to the national economy, more so to the families of the marginalized.
Survey says unemployment has shot up to double digit levels. And, 13 percent is unemployed. The 87 percent of the population agrees.

While jobs are rare in coming, employers are complaining of slow production.
I asked a friend how many does he have working in his office? The tart answer was “About a third.”
Work attitude has dramatically been affected, mostly affected by fear and many by depression.
So hiring is so tricky a friend has made honesty his first measure of interest in a new employee.
An applicant was honest enough in an interview that when told that my friend’s company was looking for responsible new hires, he answered “I am your man then, in my last job, when anything went wrong, I was responsible.”
