A female passenger was placed under arrest for bringing an improvised gun to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), the PNP Aviation Security Group said Tuesday, July 8.

The Aviation police reported that the unidentified traveler, a resident of Quezon City, was a passenger on Philippine Airlines flight PR2959 bound for Cotabato City.

The 40-year-old woman claimed her sibling had requested her to bring the gun to Cotabato City, even though she was aware of the possibility of being arrested.

The prohibited item was detected during routine x-ray screening at the baggage make-up area, concealed inside a tire interior and wrapped in plastic.

A manual inspection revealed that it was an improvised firearm commonly known as a "sumpak."

The firearm is potentially capable of discharging .22-caliber ammunition, for which the passenger failed to produce legal documentation.

She was immediately placed under the custody of NAIA Police Station 2 for documentation and the preparation of appropriate charges for violation of Republic Act 10591, otherwise known as The Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
