The winners in the recently concluded Gabi ng Parangal or the awards nights of the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF). are already named.

Best Picture went to GMA Films’ “Green Bones” while Dennis Trillo and Ruru Madrid brought home the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor trophies, respectively, for the film and Judy Ann Santos romped away with the Best Actress Award for Quantum Film, Cineko Productions and Purple Bunny Productions’ “Espantaho.” Kakki Teodoro won Best Supporting Actress for Kapitol Films, CreaZion Studios and Unitel Straight Shooters Media’s “Isang Himala” which also received the 4th Best Picture award.

The Best Director award was shared by Crisanto Aquino for Regal Entertainment’s “My Future You” which also took home the 3rd Best Picture Award and Michael Tuviera for M-Zet Productions, APT Entertainment and MediaQuest Ventures’ “The Kingdom” which also won 2nd Best Picture.

The Special Jury Prize went to Nathan Films’ “Topakk.”

Will these victories guarantee an increase in the box-office earnings of their respective entries?

If we are to believe GMA Pictures, the company said that the theater allocations for “Green Bones” tripled from 60 to 160 cinemas nationwide after it was declared the best film among the ten movies lined up in the fest.

In an interview with GMA Network executives, they said that GMA Pictures is committed to offer quality films to the public aside from giving acting jobs to talents of the Kapuso Network.

Meanwhile, lady producer Joji Villanueva Alonso, the top brass of Quantum Films informed us that “Espantaho” is going to Portugal. “It is the ONLY Filipino film in competition,” said Joji.

Zig Dulay, the director of “Green Bones” is confident that his film will still make a lot of money for the producer of the project.

“Lagi nating tangkilikin ang mga pelikulang Pilipino para lalo pang umunlad ang ating industry (Let us always patronize Filipino movies so that the industry will progress),” said Zig.

“Green Bones” is a story of a prisoner played by Dennis who is up for parole but the new jail warden tackled by Ruru who blocks his freedom because he says that the culprit in the death of his loved ones is the jailbird.

Meanwhile, in the overall box-office returns of all the ten entries, some monitoring agencies in their performances at the tills, Star Cinema’s “And the Breadwinner is…” is top grosser followed by “The Kingdom” then Mentorque Productions’ “Uninvited” comes closely in the third slot.

There is no official release of total gross of each film or the collective revenues of the fest until the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the one that oversees all the MMFF activities finally issues figures approved by its office.
