Do you know that Original Pilipino Music (OPM) icon Ogie Alcasid, aside from being a Manileno and Batangueno, is also from Laguna Province?

Ogie’s side of the Alcasids is from Calamba City.

There are many Alcasids in the city and its neighboring towns.

That must be the reason why Ogie Alcasid is endeared to many Lagunenses.

And he must be more loved by his province mates when he is one of the very first celebrities who responded to the call of support to our fellow Filipinos who were victims of the fury and destruction of severe Typhoon Kristine, international name Trami.

Ogie was very quick to respond to the tragedy that befell on many of our kababayans especially in the Bicol Region.

Alcasid, aside from being born in Taal, Batangas, has also many cousins in the province that was hit hard by the tropical cyclone. He was joined by his wife, Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez.

Although the couple went through Angat Buhay Foundation to facilitate their altruism, it didn’t matter.

Ogie was and still is an ardent supporter of former vice president Leni Robredo’s foundation ever since it was founded during the presidential candidacy of the heroine from Naga City.

When Ogie and his teammates Kim Chiu, Lassy and MC won the grand championship of the “Magpasikat 2024” of ABS-CBN’s noontime show in GMA Network, “It’s Showtime,” they brought to the Angat Buhay the full amount of three hundred thousand pesos (P300,000.00) in aid of the typhoon victims.

Kim herself was teary-eyed when she found out that many of our kababayans in the provinces were devastated by the super typhoon.

Even if she was doubly happy in winning the game with Ogie and company when she performed the delicate suspension in the air ala-flying trapeze, she shed tears for the hapless victims of the calamity.

Alcasid was happy sharing the socio-civic act with Kim, Lassy and MC.

Ogie couldn’t contain his joy and excitement in winning the contest as well as serving his fellowmen affected by the catastrophe.

In his Instagram notes, the balladeer expressed his gratitude to his team for cooperation and genuine intention to reach out to the needy amid the challenges of the game they were pitted against their co-hosts in the show.

“I am just so proud of this team. From conceptualization, to research, development of script and music, to the direction, actual performance and acceptance of whatever judgment and opinions may be bestowed upon our hard work---we just stuck to our guts to deliver our message of tigil (pause), hinga (breathe), and kalma (calmness). TY so much for the opportunity to work with all of you. The Lord blesses us all,” he gushed.
