In a town where faith flows as steadily as the sea breeze, Catarman once again proved why its festivals are more than dates on a calendar.

The 2026 celebration of the Sto. Niño de Catarman and the vibrant Tarum Festival transformed the capital town into a living tapestry of devotion, dance, and shared identity, drawing thousands of devotees, balikbayans, and visitors from across the province.

The festivities opened with a solemn yet joyful series of religious activities honoring the Señor Santo Niño, whose image has long been at the heart of Catarman’s spiritual life.

Streets were filled with devotees clad in red and white, candles in hand, prayers on their lips.

The highlight, the grand fluvial and street procession, unfolded as a moving testament of faith with children, elders, and families walking together, some barefoot, many carrying personal intentions and thanksgiving.

Church bells rang in rhythm with hymns, echoing a devotion passed down through generations.

Seamlessly woven into the religious celebration was the Tarum Festival, a cultural showcase inspired by Catarman’s river systems and agricultural heritage.

“Tarum,” a local term associated with water flow and abundance, became both theme and metaphor symbolizing life, resilience, and unity.

Colorful street dances burst into motion as contingents from different barangays performed choreography mimicking waves, planting, and harvest, accompanied by drums, indigenous beats, and modern arrangements.

What set the 2026 celebration apart was its renewed emphasis on community participation. Local artisans displayed handcrafted products, farmers showcased native produce, and young entrepreneurs filled pop-up stalls with local flavors.

Evenings turned festive as public plazas hosted cultural nights, live music, and storytelling sessions featuring Catarman’s history and folklore.

Local officials noted that beyond the spectacle, the festival boosted small businesses and strengthened social ties. “This is where faith meets culture and livelihood,” one organizer shared.

“The Sto. Niño reminds us who we are, while the Tarum Festival celebrates how we live.”

As fireworks lit up the final night, reflecting on smiling faces and clasped hands, one thing was clear: the Sto. Niño de Catarman 2026 and Tarum Festival were not just celebrations, they were affirmations.

In dance steps, prayers, and shared meals, Catarman once again told its story: a town rooted in faith, carried by culture, and flowing forward together.
