As the Philippine election season approaches, the country is once again faced with the daunting task of choosing the right leaders to lead the nation.

It is disheartening to see that many of those vying for power are individuals who are mired in controversy, corruption, and even illegality.

It is a stark reality that the Philippines has become a breeding ground for officials who have no qualms about flaunting their questionable backgrounds and records.

We have seen it time and again the likes of politicians who have been accused of being involved in illegal drug trade, others who have been convicted of corruption, and even those with alleged ties to foreign spies.

It is a travesty that these individuals can still be considered viable candidates for public office.

How can we trust them to serve the people when they themselves are stained by their own moral bankruptcy?

The proliferation of private armed groups, notorious for their involvement in extrajudicial killings and other forms of violence, is another alarming trend specifically in Eastern Visayas.

These groups are often linked to politicians who provide them with protection and patronage.

This creates a culture of impunity, where lawlessness and brutality become acceptable norms.

It is high time for the Filipino people to wake up and demand better from their leaders.

We need politicians who are committed to serving the public good, not their own selfish interests.

We need leaders who are transparent, accountable, and honest. Anything less is unacceptable.

Filipinos deserve better rather than officials who have compromised the nation's integrity and reputation on the international scene.

We must take a stand against this culture of corruption and illegality and demand change.

Only then can we hope to build a brighter future for our country, one that is based on truth, justice, and accountability.
