To learn more about the Portuguese explorer Magellan, Palacio de Memoria showcased rare artifacts from his circumnavigation of the globe.
The Gallery of Prints also presented “The Half Millennium Arrival of Ferdinand Magellan” collection, which includes the original three-volume set of Giovanni Battista Ramusio’s “Delle Navigatione et Viaggi” or Navigations and Travels, which was published in the late 16th century.
It includes the analysis of the Pigafetta narrative of Magellan/Elcano’s First Circumnavigation as well as narrative sequeces of Maximillianu Transylvanus.
Also presented was the Gistaldi Map, or the “birth certificate” of the Philippines. It is where the name “Filipina” was written for the first time on a printed map.
Some 13 other famous maps were presented as well as an analysis of Pigafetta’s account with Magellan.
Pieces from Rue, Vidro, Gallery of Prints, Private Collection of Angelique Lhuillier, Private Collection of Edd Fuentes, Farzam, Silahis Center, Lotus Asian Antiques, and Caramel Creatives were also showcased along with other vintage finds like sculptures, furniture, textiles, accessories, toys, and more.
