One of the regular visitors during the funeral wake of the most talked about and irrepressible talk show host, movie columnist and talent manager Lolit Solis was award-winning director from Samar, Chito S. Roño.
Chito was a loyal and true friend of Lolit who had given him equal treatment of camaraderie.
Roño's friendship with Solis started when he was beginning to make movies and in the advent of his management of the youth-oriented dance group Street Boys.
During the height of the Vhong Navarro, Jhong Hilario, Spencer Reyes, Danilo Barrios et al dance troupe, the friendship between the filmmaker and the entertainment writer was cemented.
That is why in the duration of the wake, Chito was always at Lolit's final moments.
Roño saw to it that everything was in place during the memorial service.
Vhong and Jhong didn't squander time to pay their last respects to Solis.
According to Chito, he would miss Lolit.
It was Roño who told us that it was Gorgy Rula (the movie reporter-protege of Solis) who was entrusted by Lolit all her last will.
"Sinabi ni Gorgy na ang gusto ni Lolit ay i-cremate siya agad pagkamatay-matay niya. At ayaw niyang pinaglalamayan siya. Ipinasarado rin ni Lolit ang kanyang kabaong dahil ayaw niyang makita siya ng mga tao sa loob ng kabaong (Gorgy told me that Lolit wanted her body cremated at once. She didn't want a vigil or a wake. She also instructed that her casket be sealed because she didn't want the people to see her inside it)," Chito recalled.
In my exclusive conversation with Roño, I congratulated him.for the success internationally and locally of the film "Espantaho (Scarecrow)" which he directed for Quantum Films of Atty. Joji Alonso.
"Espantaho (Scarecrow)" has been taking the whole world by storm.
It had won awards in foreign film festivals which Roño said he didn't want to attend anymore.
"No'ng kabataan ko pa siguro. Ngayon, pagod na ako (I think I have already outgrown it. I am already tired travelling and attending film festivals)," he admitted.
