Catbalogan City, Samar -- A confirmed case of identity theft has been reported in the province of Samar, specifically in the town of Pinabacdao.
According to the complainant, a former barangay councilor from Barangay 2 of the said town, she discovered the issue when she found out that her name was missing from the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) voters’ list.
Upon inquiring at the COMELEC office in Pinabacdao, she was shocked to learn that her voter registration was recorded in Quezon City instead.
The complainant, who spoke to OpinYon, stated that she has never resided in Quezon City and had served as a barangay councilor for three terms, making it unlikely for her registration to be transferred to that city.
Upon reviewing records at COMELEC Pinabacdao, it was found that the registration details in Quezon City matched her personal information, including her full name, middle name, birthdate, and other relevant details.
Concerned about the situation, she immediately went to the Office of the Provincial Election Officer to formally report the issue.
She was advised to submit a written complaint along with the necessary identification documents to facilitate the investigation. According to COMELEC Samar, this is the first time they have encountered such a case.
The office assured that the complaint will be properly addressed.
