Volcanic tremors experienced in Taal volcano.

Four volcanic tremors in Taal Volcano were detected in the last 24 hours, lasting for 2 to 7 minutes, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said today.

"The tremors are volcanic earthquakes signifying fluid or gas movement," Phivolcs Director Undersecretary Renato Solidum Jr. told Philippine News Agency.

He also stated that there is no connection between these shocks and the magnitude 7 earthquake that shook northern Luzon last week.

Low-level unrest at Alert Level 1 continues, Solidum said.

Areas inside Taal's permanent danger zone may be in risk from sudden steam-driven or phreatic explosions, volcanic earthquakes, small ashfall, and expulsions of volcanic gas under Alert Level 1.

Entry into the area that is in danger zone, particularly the area around the main crater and the Daang Kastila fissure, is still restricted. On the Taal Lake, both boats and occupancy are prohibited.

Pilots are also advised to avoid flying close to the volcano as the airborne ash, ballistic components from explosions, and wind-remobilized ash may present threats to aircraft.

A large plume emission that was 1,200 meters high was also noticed during the last 24 hours.

Phivolcs reported a sulfur dioxide flow average of 2,306 tons on August 1.
