An unexploded bomb was uncovered at a construction site near the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), the PNP-Aviation Security Group said.
Aviation police said the explosive device, a World War 2 "torpedo" including its energy and tail section, were unearthed separately by a backhoe operator working in the area on Monday.
Airport authorities said that construction personnel immediately reported to the Mobile Patrol Security Unit of the Avsegroup.
The Avsegroup Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and Canine Unit safely transported the unexploded ordnance to their headquarters for further assessment and disposal.
According to Avsegroup Director P/BGen. Jay R. Cumigad, the prompt reporting by civilians played a crucial role, allowing its officers to respond quickly and prioritize public safety.
On November 28 last year, a vintage World War 2-era bomb was accidentally discovered by workers on MIA Road near NAIA Terminal 2 during a road widening project.
The bomb was US-made, measuring 54 inches long and 63 inches in diameter.
