Singapore-based company Vena Energy is set to invest a minimum of PHP19 billion to expand its wind energy initiatives in the Philippines, specifically at a 304-megawatt (MW) wind farm straddling the Northern Samar and Samar provinces.

This development is part of the ongoing PHP19 billion San Isidro Wind Project, which has been a joint venture between Vena Energy, Vivant Energy, and Aboitiz Renewables, as confirmed by the Northern Samar provincial government on Friday.

The wind farm, located near the borders of San Isidro in Northern Samar and Calbayog City in Samar, is approximately 235 kilometers north of Tacloban, the region's capital.

The planned expansion will add 38 wind turbine generators, each capable of producing 8 MW, to the existing 33 turbines, which each have a capacity of 6.25 MW.

The new turbines are expected to be operational by December 15, 2026.

The Northern Samar provincial government stated that Vena Energy's significant investment reflects a strong commitment to advancing sustainable energy in Samar Island.

It will play a crucial role in enhancing the renewable energy sector in the Philippines while also promoting economic development and environmental sustainability.

Vena Energy’s subsidiary, Gemini Wind Energy Corp., will manage the expansion efforts after winning the bid through the Green Energy Auction Program.

Recent discussions in Quezon City included Vena Energy representatives, such as Board of Investment Governor Katrina Therese Lim-Dy and Investment Services Director Ernesto de los Reyes Jr., along with Northern Samar Governor Edwin Ongchuan and Samar Governor Sharee Ann Tan.

Currently, Vena Energy manages six renewable energy projects in the Philippines that generate a total of 330.80 MW of clean energy.

Their portfolio includes a 132.5-MW solar power plant in Cadiz, Negros Occidental, a 54-MW wind facility in Pililla, Rizal, and several other solar plants across the country, varying from capacities of 10.50 MW to 83.30 MW.
