A Filipino inventor has proven that his new “flying car” is safe, during an exhibition in Baguio City. Is he now ready to conquer the mass market?

A month after breaking the Guinness World Record on hoverboard flight, Filipino inventor Kyxz Mendiola flew his new flying car around Baguio City’s Burnham Park on September 1.

Technically, he calls it the electric-manned aerial vehicle (EMAV).

Mendiola’s machine resembles a drone, a one-seat sports car, and a hoverboard altogether.

The test flights were scheduled alongside the celebration of Baguio Day where onlookers were also treated to the sight of the record-breaking hoverboard.

According to the Philippine Star, two city counselors also tested Mendiola’s latest design, the EMAV Future 8.

Future 8 is a one-seater model that is ready for mass production while the two- and four-seaters are currently being developed.

It is believed to be the final EMAV design built after Mediola partnered with the Australian company Star8 in 2018.

After seeing Mendiola’s independently made ‘flying car’ in 2018, Star8's Chief Executive Jacob Maimon said he wanted to mass produce it and market it in Australia, Europe and Hong Kong, after helping the inventor perfect the machine.

According to Mendiola, they are preparing their first ocean crossing in November but have yet to reveal where.

While the design may look chunky and resemble a drone rather than a car, many might prefer to fly over the sea of cars along the major thoroughfares in Metro Manila.

If possible, would you fly on an EMAV?
