What started out as a fun vacation ended in near-tragedy in Cavinti, Laguna last Tuesday, May 5.
A total of 13 individuals, including three minors, were rushed to the Laguna Medical Center after the passenger jeepney they were riding in turned turtle at a curved section of the Pagsanjan-Luisiana Road in Barangay Duhat Tuesday morning.
According to a report from the Cavinti Municipal Police Station, the passenger jeepney with plate number DVD-939 and driven by alias "Fred," 58 years old and a resident of Pila, Laguna, was carrying 12 passengers on their way back to Santa Cruz, Laguna after an excursion in Catanduanes when the accident occured.
The driver said he lost control of the jeepney's brakes at a downhill portion of the road in Barangay Duhat, causing the vehicle to careen off the road and crash into a sari-sari store.
The jeepney turned on its side due to the high impact of the collision with the store.
Responders from the Cavinti Muncipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) were quick to reach the scene and treat the injured passengers.
