Towards a shared goal of disaster preparedness, officials from the Laguna provincial government conducted a courtesy visit to officials of the San Pedro City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) last July 15.
PDRRMO officials led by Undersecretary Ray Roquero and Undersecretary Alain Pascua were given an in-depth briefing and facility tour by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) at the CDRRMO’s state-of-the-art Command Center in Barangay Poblacion.
“Ang pagbabahagi natin ng kaalaman sa Laguna provincial government ay nakasentro sa technology and systems ng City of San Pedro particularly of the San Pedro CDRRM Operations Center/Command Center,” Vernet Nico Pavino, head of the San Pedro CDRRMO, shared in a message to Opinyon Laguna.
“The objective of the Laguna Provincial Government is to integrate their system in order to monitor the situation in the whole province using the different OpCen of the cities and municipalities,” he added.
Command Center
The center, which was opened in April 2024, houses a top-of-the-line early warning and monitoring system which enables the CDRRMO to better monitor and respond to various emergency situations.
Its real-time monitoring system covers a wide variety of situations and aspects of disaster preparedness such as traffic flow, river water levels, air quality, heat index, and more, also utilized in identifying law violators through surveillance integration.
The Command Center also boasts of stable Internet connection through Starlink – an invaluable asset for the city's disaster response office, especially as communications facilities are often affected during times of calamities.
“Here at the San Pedro CDRRM’s OpCen/Command Center, have different technologies such as Local Weather Station, Artificial Intelligence technology, and advanced surveillance and monitoring systems. With these, monitoring and surveillance are accurate and real time. Mas mabilis ang emergency response, advisories, warning dissemination and decision-making para sa CDRRMC,” Pavino added.
Future plans
The CDRRMO chief added that one of the projects the Laguna provincial government is looking into is the mirroring and integration of Command Centers in the province.
This, he said, will enable the provincial government to better monitor the situation on the ground, especially during calamities.
“Also, mas palakasin ang coordination and communication sa buong province. With these, mas mapapabilis ang emergency response at mas magiging coordinated ang galaw ng mga LGUs at ng Laguna Province,” he said.
