Amidst the scorching heat in Iloilo City, two pressing issues emerged thrusting the community into a state of urgency and action.

The declaration of a State of Calamity due to a Pertussis Outbreak, compounded by a shortage of vaccines for children, has collided with the looming threat of water scarcity, creating a dual crisis that demands swift and decisive measures from local authorities.

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas orchestrates efforts to address these multifaceted challenges head-on. No compromises.

Health Issues

Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the City Health Office, under the mayor's guidance, has navigated the complexities of vaccine procurement to safeguard the health of Iloilo City's children.

Despite facing obstacles in the procurement process, Treñas's unwavering determination has culminated in the acquisition of 6,000 vaccines from the Department of Health, with ongoing efforts to secure additional doses for the city's vulnerable population.

"Ang Iloilo City kaya gid magbakal kag may budget kami para sa vaccines pero and problems naton amo and baklan kay depended ina sa supplier," Mayor Trenas remarked, highlighting the inherent challenges posed by external dependencies in vaccine procurement.

Water Crisis

Amidst the healthcare crisis, the specter of water shortages looms large, exacerbating the strain on the city's resources and infrastructure.

Treñas proactively sought solutions to mitigate the impact of water scarcity, collaborating with stakeholders such as Metro Pacific Water to bolster the city's water infrastructure.

The recent groundbreaking and inauguration ceremony for the Pipe Laying Project at Donato Pison Elementary School stands as a testament to the city executive's commitment to address the water crisis.

Joined by Andrew Pangilinan, president of Metro Pacific Water, Treñas heralded the commencement of projects aimed at expanding water access and improving service delivery to underserved areas in Mandurriao and Jaro Districts.

"These projects mark a significant step forward in ensuring the availability of essential public utilities, especially water, to all our residents," Treñas affirmed, underscoring the vital role of sustainable infrastructure investment in fostering community resilience.

As Iloilo City navigates the intersecting challenges of health crises and water scarcity, Mayor Treñas's proactive leadership and collaborative approach serve as a guide in a landscape fraught with uncertainty.

Through concerted efforts and unwavering resolve, the city stands poised to overcome adversity and emerge stronger, ensuring the well-being and prosperity of its residents for generations to come.
