Government agents confiscated over P1.5 million worth of illicit substances found in four unclaimed packages at the Central Mail Exchange Center (CMEC) in Pasay City.
The Bureau of Customs (BoC) at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) said the initial package from Canada that was seized was addressed to a certain JC Sarmiento and labeled as a sextoy tumbler.
However, upon inspection, it was discovered to contain 116 grams of a marijuana variety known as kush.
The second package, labeled as a Cushion Repair Kit and sent by EOS Upholstery in South El Monte, California, was discovered to contain 225 grams of kush and eight vape cartridges filled with liquid marijuana.
The third package that was intercepted contained a video game for Nintendo or PlayStation. It was sent from San Francisco, California by Cocoy Ortaleza to Andy Ortaleza in Angeles City, Pampanga.
Upon inspection, it was discovered to have around 114 grams of a substance suspected to be shabu.
The last parcel, which was declared as a merchandise shipped by Carson Lawrence of O'Fallon, Missouri, yielded 26 vape cartridges of liquid marijuana and 44 grams of kush.
The consignee was identified as Mark Truzan of Leveriza, Pasay City.
The confiscated drugs had a total street market value of P1,594,220, the BOC added.
The seized contraband were turned over to the NAIA Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency - Interagency Drug Interdiction Task Group for further investigation and appropriate handling.
The BoC said that all the items are considered abandoned when no one steps forward to claim them.
