Kyle Paranada delivers career game to break a 15-game losing streak for the UE Red Warriors against the FEU Tamaraws in UAAP S85

After three long years, the UE Red Warriors finally notched a win and broke a 15-game losing streak at the expense of the struggling FEU Tamaraws, 76-66, in the UAAP Season 85 men’s basketball tournament at the PhilSports Arena on Wednesday, October 5.

The win is the first for a lot of the players in the roster, as well as head coach Jack Santiago as a head coach in the league, as this marks the team’s first victory since October 30, 2019 against the NU Bulldogs, 79-77, to end their Season 82 campaign.

UE rode the overflowing confidence of sophomore Kyle Paranada who delivered a career-high game with 25 points – 9 coming in the fourth quarter alone – from 5-of-10 shots from deep together with 5 assists in 21 minutes of playing time.

"I'm very happy about the win. It will be momentum for the next games," said Paranada.

No other Red Warrior scored in double digits but Kyle who was backed by JM Tulabut adding nine points, Luis Villegas with eight points, five boards, and five assists, and Nikko Paranada tallying eight points, four rebounds, and two assists.

"I think ang bottomline nga doon, yung heart. We just came from a loss in our first game, but I told the boys na it's only the first game," said coach Santiago.

"Maybe it's opening jitters for us. Ang bottom line dito, yung system namin," he added.

On the other side of the court, Patrick Sleat tried to pace the Tamaraws with a 15-piece outing, following his 17-point season debut, on 6-of-12 shooting plus 4 steals and 3 boards, with Cholo Añonuevo also taking up the slack scoring 10 points with 5 rebounds and 2 assists.

The Red Warriors will try to keep a win streak going as they face the Adamson Soaring Falcons on Saturday, October 8, 2 pm at the Araneta Coliseum.
