An Emirates cargo plane loaded with relief goods arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Tuesday, July 30.

The Philippine government and United Arab Emirates embassy officials welcomed the cargo plane with an estimated eight hundred thousand kilograms of various food items such as pasta, wheat flour, basmati rice, red lentils, dates, chickpeas, powdered juice, tomato paste, sugar, salt, and sweet corn, donated by the UAE to those affected by Typhoon Carina and habagat just this past week.

Among those who greeted the arrival of the cargo plane were Special Envoy to the United Arab Emirates for Trade and Investment Ma. Anna Kathryna Yu-Pimentel, Department of Social Welfare and Development Secretary Rex Gatchalian, Interior Secretary Benjamin Abalos, Jr., UAE Ambassador Mohamed Obaid Alqattam, and Reichel Quiñones, chief of Presidential Protocol and Presidential Assistant on Foreign Affairs.

The DSWD said that the Philippine government is grateful for the generosity of the UAE for this immediate assistance, which will be delivered as soon as possible to the affected areas.

According to the DSWD, they provided a list to the UAE indicating where these relief goods will be sent.

The DSWD has already distributed almost one million family food packs.

The donations from the UAE are 2, 464 pack bags which contained 900-gram milk, 5 kilograms flour, 400 grams of tea, 5 kilograms of rice, 1.5-liter oil, 1 kilogram red lentils, 1 kilogram peas, 1 kilogram of dates, 375 mg of Tang powder, 500-gram of oats, 859-mg tomato paste, 2 kilograms sugar, and 1 kilogram salt.

The donation also includes 4,928 packages and cans of 400-gram pasta, 400-gram sweet corn, 490-gram red kidney beans, and 9856 cans of 179-gram tuna and chickpeas.
