Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade thanked San Miguel Corporation president Ramon Ang for his cooperation with the national government in their shared goal of improving Filipinos’ lives through faster road links.

“Now is the time to connect east and west.”

These are the words spoken by Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade at the signing of the supplemental toll operations agreement (STOA) between officials of the Department of Transportation (DOTr), led by the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB), and San Miguel Corporation (SMC) for the construction of the Pasig River Expressway (PAREX) system today (September 21).

In his speech, Tugade thanked SMC president Ramon Ang for his cooperation with the national government in their shared goal of improving Filipinos’ lives through faster road links.

The secretary particularly cited the Skyway Stage 3 project that now connects the two major arterial roads in Luzon, the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and South Luzon Expressway (SLEX).

"Buong sambayanan ang makikinabang sa proyektong ito, sapagkat kung ia-address mo na mabawasan ang daloy ng trapiko (sa Metro Manila), kung ia-address natin ang tinatawag na paiksiin natin ang paglalakbay, hindi lang po ang mga nagmamaneho ang makikinabang," he said.

The PAREX system is a 19.37-kilometer six-lane elevated expressway that will run along Pasig River between the City of Manila and Taytay, Rizal, with a connection to the Skyway Stage 3 at Sta. Mesa, Manila.

According to SMC, PAREX will incorporate sustainable features together with an efficient transport infrastructure that Metro Manila needs.

“This will be an inclusive, user-centered infrastructure that will integrate various modes of transportation beyond cars. It will have dedicated bike lanes, walkways, a bus rapid transit system, among others,” Ang said.

The project is expected to be completed by 2023.
