Accident or revenge?
A malicious Facebook troll account claimed responsibility for the recent fire that gutted Pawing National High School (NHS) on June 18, 2025, and issued threats against the lives of teachers and students.
The alarming message has caused widespread concern among school officials, parents, and local authorities.
The threatening message was sent on the school’s Facebook page by a user identified as Harv Dumpy at 6:46 PM on June 22.
In the message, the account owner admitted to setting the fire and issued menacing threats, including plans to attack the school again with bombs and harm anyone involved.
“An school kulang pa adto nga akon gin buhat nga gin sunog ko. Pasalamat ka ma’am gabi ko gin buhat adto. Diri pa ak tapos hito ng aiyo iskwelahan..,” the message said.
The message has sent shockwaves through the school community and has prompted immediate action from authorities.
Some are speculating that the suspect could possibly be a student holding a grudge against a faculty or one of the informal settlers residing near the school.
According to information sourced by OpinYon 8, some houses were allegedly affected by the school’s decision to widen the road towards the institution and allegedly building a fence which affected the road right of way towards several homes.
However, these allegations are still to be confirmed.
Meanwhile, school officials expressed deep concern over the threats, emphasizing the importance of safety and the urgency of addressing such serious warnings. They assured parents and students that security measures are being reinforced to prevent any further incidents.
Local police authorities have already filed a police blotter report regarding the threat at the Palo Municipal Police Station. Law enforcement officials are now working closely with cybercrime units to identify the individual behind the troll account and to take appropriate legal actions.
The police have also assured the public that they are doing everything possible to ensure the safety of all school personnel and students.
The Department of Education (DepEd) Leyte Division has also issued a statement condemning the threats and calling for strict monitoring of online activities affecting schools. They emphasized that safety and security remain their top priorities.
As of now, investigations are ongoing, and authorities are urging the public to remain cautious while they work to apprehend those responsible. The school community remains on alert, hopeful that justice will be served and that safety measures will prevent any future threats.
