Skater sensation Margielyn Didal hits another collaboration with the sneaker brand New Balance which features her story and personal design.
SKATEBOARDER phenomenon and 2020 Olympian Margielyn Didal might have lost on her bid for podium finish, but she is indeed winning outside of it.
One proof is the scheduled release of her own sneakers, the New Balance Numeric 272.
Indeed, Didal has captured the attention of people with her undeniably insane talent when it comes to skateboarding and gregarious personality.
She also flaunted her goofy side to the world with her hilarious photobombing tendencies, and even her effortlessly cool style.
This led to one of her biggest collaborations yet with the sneaker brand New Balance.
Didal will release her own sneaker which she personally designed and crafted each detail that encaptures her story.
Although this is not the first time she will be collaborating with the shoe brand.
The Cebuana has been a partner of New Balance since April of 2020.
The New Balance Numeric 272 pair takes a more personal route in terms of design and inspiration.
Didal’s 272’s are inspired by her younger days as a street vendor in Cebu where she sold puso.
Puso is a Cebuano delicacy made by boiling rice in a woven pouch of palm leaves.
In the pictures released for the drop of the shoe, Didal can be seen modelling with a puso in her photos rocking the sneakers.
It was while she was selling puso with her mom outside a skatepark that she discovered skateboarding.
She has come a long way since then, but she has not forgotten her roots and her new sneaker helps her tell her story.
Didal’s own story and personality are designed all throughout the shoe.
The suede quarter panels come dressed in khaki and features an embossed cross weave pattern, mimicking the look and feel of the coconut leaves used in puso to wrap the rice.
The tan heel panels are embossed with personal details: Margielyn’s initials M.A.D. (middle name Arda) on the right shoe and the area code for Cebu, 032, on the left shoe.
Additional features include a black suede toe box, black vulcanized midsole, gum outsole, and puso graphic insoles.
Before heading to the Olympics, the 22-year-old had previously won gold at the 2018 Asian Games, two gold medals in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games as well as a bronze at the 2020 Tampa Pro Women’s Open Finals.
Priced at $79.99 USD (Php 8,000), Margielyn Didal x New Balance Numeric’s 272 “Puso” is now available on the New Balance website.
