The collaboration between the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Faculty of Arts and Letters Class 1975 and Dry Brush Gallery in the Maytime festivity presentation of "Flores de Mayo ng Birheng Maria" was a success.

Even if the management of SM North EDSA was arbitrarily strict on the imposition of its rules on performances inside the mall, the event shown by UST Artlets '75 and Dry Brush Gallery was inspirational.

It was a tweak of the traditional Santacruzan where a bevy of sagalas (maidens) and male consorts gingerly walked in the procession.

The "Flores de Mayo ng Birheng Maria" had only one sagala, Reyna de las Estrellas who was donned and represented by Angel Evangelista direct from Lopez, Quezon.

Angel sang the "Tuhog na Bulaklak" hymn from the traditional sagalahan church ritual from the rural town of Lopez and recited the lua/luwa, a poetic form that originated from Iloilo.

The lua/luwa is a veneration to the Blessed Virgin Mary, distinguished as the Queen of Flowers.
