A celebration of 60 years of progress and industry.
That was how local entrepreneurs and officials in Eastern Samar see the recent Tourism and Agri-Trade Fair held from November 6 to 8 in Borongan City.
The three-day fair was organized as part of celebrations of the province's 60th founding anniversary.
It also aims to strengthen local livelihoods, promote homegrown products, and highlight the cultural identity of the people of Eastern Samar.
More than 70 exhibitors and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) from 13 municipalities and Borongan City joined the event, displaying local delicacies, handicrafts, and innovative products that reflect the resourcefulness and creativity of Eastern Samar’s communities.
In his message, delivered on behalf of Gov. RV Evardone, Board Member Atty. PJ Evardone underscored the importance of agriculture and tourism as key drivers of inclusive and sustained economic growth.
“Duha nga sektor an gintututukan han administrasyon ni Gov. RV Evardone, an agrikultura ngan turismo, tungod kay ini nga mga sektor an maghahatag hin dugang nga pakabuhi ha mga Estehanon (The administration of Gov. RV Evardone is focused on two major sectors—agriculture and tourism—because these are the industries that will provide more livelihood opportunities for the people of Eastern Samar),” Evardone said.
Evardone also called on Estehanons to continue supporting government initiatives on tourism and agriculture to ensure sustained economic growth for the province.
Meanwhile, DTI and DA-8 representatives lauded the provincial government for creating a platform that enables MSMEs to showcase their products, expand their markets, and strengthen partnerships with the public and private sectors.
Eastern Samar was created in 1965 by virtue of Republic Act No. 4221, separating it from the mother province of Samar.
