Globe Telecom is taking significant strides to ensure inclusive connectivity and provide life-enabling services across the Visayas region.

This commitment was recently underscored by Patrick Gloria, Globe's External Affairs Vice President, during his address at the 15th annual Asia CEO Forum held at the Fili Hotel, Nustar Cebu.

The forum, a prestigious gathering of business leaders, focused on advancing enterprise strategies and contributing to Metro Cebu's economic growth.

This year's theme emphasized integrating new technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), to revolutionize business operations and spur regional development.

"In today’s digital world, connectivity is not a privilege but a right for all. Globe is committed to bridging the digital divide, ensuring that the benefits of the digital age are accessible to everyone," Gloria asserted.

His remarks highlighted Globe's ongoing network initiatives in Cebu, aimed at meeting the region's increasing demand for robust connectivity.

Growth

Over the past three years, Globe has significantly enhanced its cellular infrastructure with new cell site deployments and expansions of existing sites, resulting in a remarkable increase in network coverage: 34 percent in Cebu City, 10 percent in Lapu-Lapu City, nine percent in Mandaue City, and 47 percent across the rest of the province.

Additionally, Globe has been diligently replacing its legacy copper infrastructure with modern fiber technology, significantly boosting internet speeds and reliability.

In the last five years, the company has built 241,000 fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) lines, with substantial contributions in Cebu City (30 percent), Mandaue City (12 percent), Lapu-Lapu City (12 percent), and the broader province (46percent ).

Inclusivity

Beyond infrastructure investments, Gloria emphasized the importance of investing in people. Globe's customer-centric approach focuses on understanding and addressing the unique needs of its users through innovative technology.

This strategy includes developing solutions that democratize financial services, primary healthcare, and e-commerce.

Through its digital platforms, such as GCash and KonsultaMD, Globe empowers individuals and businesses, fostering a more inclusive and resilient digital economy.

Sustainability

Globe's commitment to sustainability is equally commendable. The company adheres to the United Nations Global Compact Principles and has pledged to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Gloria also highlighted Globe’s strategic partnerships with national government agencies and local government units (LGUs) to expedite the deployment of connectivity infrastructure by streamlining the permitting process.

The Asia CEO Forum Cebu underscored the pivotal role of digital transformation in driving economic development and enhancing the lives of people in the Visayas.

Globe's sustained efforts towards inclusive connectivity are crucial in realizing these goals, ensuring a vibrant and prosperous future for Metro Cebu and the nation.
