TACLOBAN CITY – In an effort to improve traffic management and road safety, the Tacloban City government has increased penalties for certain traffic violations, raising fines by 100% for some public utility vehicles.

According to Traffic Discipline Unit Commander Jabs Lagutan, traffic-violation penalties for MCH, pedicabs, motorized pedicabs, and e-bikes have increased from ₱500.00 to ₱1,000.00. The adjustment is in line with the Tricycle Road Plan Ordinance 2024-15-94, which restricts these vehicles from major roads and highways as designated by the Traffic Operations Management Enforcement and Control Office (TOMECO).

Authorities are also urging commuters to report fare overcharging, particularly cases where drivers charge double the regular fare for a single passenger. Lagutan advised passengers to take note of the vehicle’s license plates and report violations to TOMECO or traffic enforcers for immediate action.

These stricter measures are part of Tacloban’s ongoing efforts to enforce road discipline, protect passengers, and ensure smoother traffic flow across the city.
