Tina Salak lands head coaching gig with the FEU Lady Tamaraws after the departure of George Pascua after UAAP S84
Tina Salak lands first head coaching job in the senior ranks with her alma mater, Far Eastern University, for the upcoming UAAP Season 85 women's volleyball tournament.
The legendary setter was called to replace George Pascua who had led the Lady Tamaraws from 2017 until the end of Season 84.
"FEU is pleased to announce the appointment of UAAP champion coach Cristina Salak as head coach of the Women’s Volleyball Team," the team said in a Facebook post.
"After a long and illustrious playing career, Coach Tina got her first head coaching job in the UAAP with the De La Salle Zobel girls volleyball team and led them to the Season 81 title."
Pascua left his post in June just after finishing their campaign in Season 84 where the Lady Tamaraws struggled from start to finish, only gathering one win out of 13 games.
"Coach Tina brings a wealth of experience and championship pedigree as a player and a coach as she returns to her alma mater," FEU said. "Let us wish Coach Tina and the Lady Tamaraws the best as the team prepares for UAAP Season 85."
Aside from her job in the UAAP, Salak is also a member of the national team coaching staff under Brazilian mentor Jorge Edson Souza de Brito.
The 45-year-old setter last participated in a team for Chery Tiggo as an assistant coach playing in the team’s title race at the 2021 Premier Volleyball League Open Conference in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte.
“Thank you, Coach George Pascua. A champion FEU coach, a champion FEU student-athlete, forever a Tamaraw. We wish you well in the next chapter of your career,” the statement also read, showing gratitude to Pascua for leading the Lady Tams for five years with a 23-26 record in four seasons.
