A year ago, the World Health Organization (WHO) released new and updated protocols from the collective experience and knowledge gained from the Covid-19 pandemic. Within the guidelines is a strict emphasis on identifying and potential virulent diseases before it spreads or mutates further. Focusing on stopping any potential of a problem rather than keeping a reactionary mindset. These days the Covid-19 pandemic is in its last stages as the public returns to life before the virus, but the question of the country’s preparedness for any future pandemic is still a prevalent topic.

Last October, the results of the Physician Licensure Exam were released. This heralded the new batch of doctors who had to finish their studies during the height of the pandemic itself. Many of whom reported not having any personal experience with an actual patient until their last year in medical school. An interview with the even younger and more green lower batches also revealed a prevalent anxiety and nervousness as most of the students have little experience with the practical applications of their lessons.

Despite learning an innumerable number of new facts and processes in the fight against diseases during the pandemic, the world still lacks students who have practical experience in such matters. The young minds of these people have the unbridled potential for greatness, but are unable to polish such talents beyond the theoretics of their field. If the country is to face another pandemic the updated protocols will help, but a large majority of our new batch of physicians still lack the personal experience to handle such a problem. We can only hope that such a trial shall never come.
