Manila Vice Mayor Yul Servo Nieto, aside from being committed to his various continuing programs as a “Lingkod Bayan” (Public Servant) like his Medical Missions, “Kasalang Bayan” and “Operation Tuli” among others, is also passionate with his acting career and creative artworks.
And although his priority at the moment as a public servant are his various programs to help the “Manilenyos”, he is, however, able to utilize his passion for art, to the benefit of more “Manilenyos”. The Vice Mayor’s various “Lingkod Bayan” programs have already helped thousands of Manila residents, especially the marginalized.
As a modern day artist, Nieto uses different scrap metals to produce his style of unique artworks. An art enthusiast, the Vice Mayor already had four “Directions” solo art exhibits in different places around the Greater Metro Manila Area last year.
In Directions 1, Nieto’s artworks were exhibited at the notable Pinto Art Museum in Antipolo City, Province of Rizal, Philippines last February 2023. His Directions 2, for its part, took place at The Gallery of the famous Manila Hotel in June 2023. While his Directions 3 took place at the Bulwagang Rodriguez of the historic Manila City Hall in October 2023. All of these solo art exhibits were successfully executed, even as all of its proceeds were also donated to various charitable institutions.
In February 2024, in line with the celebration of the National Arts Month in the Philippines, Yul Servo once again showcased his artworks through Directions IV, a solo art exhibit at The Art District in the historic Calvo Building in Escolta, City of Manila.
As an actor, Nieto made his mark when he won the Best Actor award in the Brussels International Independent Film Festival in 2001 for “Batang West Side”, in 2004 he won the same award again for “Naglalayag” and in 2008 for the movie “Ang Paglalakbay”. In between these best actor awards, however, Nieto got nominations for various award categories from various award-giving bodies, both internationally and locally,,
Indeed, the serious and committed public servant in Vice Mayor Nieto, even as he is easily accessible to everyone with a ready smile, has a soft heart for art and is able to formulate an ideal mix in his role as a public servant and an artist, if only to be able to help more of those in need.
From a three-term Councilor of Manila to a two-term Congressman and now the incumbent Vice Mayor of Manila, he never lost in all his bids to serve the public. A homegrown Manilenyo, Nieto grew up in the Binondo area of Manila City,.
