TESDA enjoins agricultural trainers, professors and students to avail of the special training program in Israel for them to contribute to the advancement of the country's agriculture sector.

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) advised agricultural trainers and professors to enroll in advanced training programs given by Agro Studies in Israel to learn more about modernized farming.

“I encourage our trainers and professors to avail of this special training program in Israel. The knowledge and skills they would gain will not only make them better educators but will also contribute to the advancement of the Philippine agriculture sector,” TESDA Director General Danilo P. Cruz said.

He said that around 500 scholarship slots had been allocated to aspirants wanting to enroll in the 11-month program that would expose them to advanced studies and training in a variety of agricultural fields.

In TESDA’s statement, Agro Studies is an international training facility that provides agricultural education to interns from developing countries in Israel. Programs in horticulture, animal science, and entrepreneurial initiative are among the courses offered. Interns can use these programs to create and launch their own agricultural businesses by participating in farm research projects.

Over 6,000 Filipino students from 27 state universities and colleges (SUCs) participated in the program, between 2006 and 2016, TESDA added.

Agro Studies and TESDA agreed to send 500 Filipino interns for five years, from 2021 to 2026, with participation from seven SUCs.

TESDA assisted in the training of 401 interns during the training period of 2020–2021. For the 2021–2022 training season, 400 more people are now in Israel.

TESDA said, interns in the Agro Studies program earn an hourly allowance of about USD9 to help with living expenses, travel costs, and tuition.

Participants are also entitled to additional employment perks, such as overtime pay, paid holidays, and sick leave.

“Upon completion, the interns are expected to contribute to the improvement of the agricultural curriculum of TESDA and other training institutions in the country. Scholars are required to implement the agriculture business plan they had formulated under the guidance of their Israeli tutors,” the agency said.
