Remember Dio Marco, the tenor and actor who has been a staple in musical theaters and television.
Dio Marco was one of the alumni of the defunct Channel 7 noontime variety show “Student Canteen”’s singing contest alongside Marco Sison and Miriam Pantig.
Dio has been assigned meaty roles on stage like Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) and other established theater companies in the Philippines.
Marco is an erudite and seasoned musician.
Music brings him and the National Artist for Literature nominee Epitacio Tongohan, also known as Doc PenPen and Bugtong Takipsilim.
Epitacio and Dio, Marco Diolata in real life, aside from being neighbors in Rizal Province—Dio is from Antipolo City while Tongohan is from Tanay—are poets.
Marco might not be noted for his poetry but his music reeks with imagery and metaphors.
This is the common denominator of Doc PenPen and Dio.
During the grand occasion of the Pentasi B World Friendship Poetry at Lanai Annabel’s atop a hill of Sampalok, Tanay, Rizal, Dio regaled the audience with his classical voice and verses.
“Kaya fan ako ni Doc PenPen dahil pareho kami ng hilig, sining (That’s why I am fan of Doc PenPen because we share the same interest, art),” quipped Dio who is currently rehearsing to a Christmas play being directed by Bong Ramos.
