About 450 undernourished children of Tayabas City are being monitored and fed under the government's supplementary feeding program for proper nutrition and weight gain.
Now known as the Dietary Supplementation Program (DSP), this is being implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Development through local governments.
Also recently this city was awarded a Special Citation for Human Milk Hub Facility that promotes, protects and supports breastfeeding in the Calabarzon Region and finalist for Highest Number of Mother-Baby Friendly Certified Facilities for CY 2014-2023 and Highest Number of Mother- Baby Friendly Certified Workplaces and Establishment for CY 2014- 2023.
This was during the just-concluded 1st Regional Mother-Baby Friendly Calabarzon Stakeholders Forum and Awarding Ceremony Department of Health-Center for Health Development.
Mayor Lovely Reynoso, as a model mother, said, "no Matter how busy a mom is, being a mayor as I am, I see to it that I give my son the proper nutrition. I breastfeed even in the office. Isusulong ang ligtas at malusog na pagpapasuso."
Reynoso, who heads the city government's City Nutrition Council and Gender and Development Council, led the distribution of "Nutritious Foods on a pink bag" as part of the DSP. Each of the 450 identified undernourished children received the pink bag with oars, orange, munggo, apple, one tray of egg, and iodized salt.
